Tarnish-resistant means the metal does not undergo the chemical reaction that turns reactive silver alloys dark. Not that it is cleaned more easily, or polished more often: that the reaction does not happen. On a personalised piece that matters twice over, because the engraving is the part that suffers first when a finish dulls.
Why does it matter more on a personalised piece?
- The engraving loses contrast first - a dulled surface makes cut lettering harder to read
- Polishing makes it worse - paste residue fills the letters and dries pale
- It cannot simply be replaced - a second one carrying the same name is not the same object
- It is worn more - personalised pieces are daily wear, not occasion wear
- Maintenance never happens - nobody polishes a piece they were given
Belle Fever uses Monel Silver, Moneil Gold and Moneil Rose Gold, waterproof and tarnish-resistant tones at a minimum 1.5mm thickness with deep laser engraving cut into the metal rather than marked on its surface. That is what keeps an inscription legible after years of daily handling.
What can you actually do with a tarnish-resistant piece?
Keep it on. Showering, swimming, exercising, sleeping and washing up are all fine, which is the practical difference: a piece that has to come off nightly comes off permanently within a month. A personalised name necklace or an open cuff bangle in these tones is designed never to be taken off, which is the only way a personalised piece does its job.
Two sensible exceptions remain. Rinse and dry after chlorine or salt water, because residue dulls a finish even when it cannot corrode it. And put jewellery on after perfume and hand cream rather than before.
What is the whole care routine?
- Buff with a dry microfibre cloth whenever it looks dull
- Warm water and a drop of plain soap for anything the cloth will not lift
- A soft toothbrush along engraved lettering, never across it
- Rinse and dry completely
- Store pieces separately so chains do not tangle

How does it compare to plated jewellery?
Plating is a surface layer over a different base metal, so it wears through at the contact points first, usually the back of a ring or the underside of a pendant. Once it does, the base metal is exposed and the piece cannot be restored. A tarnish-resistant tone at a minimum 1.5mm thickness has no layer to wear through, which is the difference between a piece that lasts a season and one that lasts a decade. A slim stackable ring worn daily is the clearest test of that.
