Strictly Land-based Family Fishing Competition 2019

My name is Nicole Bryant from Strictly Land-based here in Whitianga!

My husband Gene and I run a Facebook page called Strictly Land-based, where we share our adventures of kayaking out to secluded locations to go fishing, be it islands or coastal ledges, whilst representing our long term sponsors. We also run our land-based charter business here in the beautiful Whitianga. We currently have a growing following of 6000.

Along the way, I wanted to really encourage families to give land-based fishing a go as there is so much more to it, than casting a rod off the beach, it really is something for the whole family! Last year I created the Strictly Land-based, Winter Family Fishing Competition. It was amazing to say the least.
This year we will be holding our second annual Winter, Family, Land-based Fishing competition.

Last years competition was a huge success!
In the end we had 140 contestants last year, 26 prize categories and various spot prizes and over 75 sponsors! Amazing for a first time competition. Last year we raised $906 for Variety the children’s Charity. This year we are aiming to double that!

This year will see a designated photo zone for the winners so that all sponsors are acknowledged with a photo of where their sponsored product has gone.
I would also really like to incorporate a filleting station with all gold coin donations going directly to Variety the Children’s Charity.I feel a filleting station would also prevent waste.
We will again hold the “any coin” sausage sizzle making it easy for all families to have a hot sausage on a cold day. All these proceeds go directly on top of the 25% contribution to Variety the Children’s Charity.

This years competition will be a two day event and incorporating a catch and release initiative. We hope that by extending the competition to two days that this will encourage more entrants especially families, to take part from far and wide! 🙂

As my hopes for this year are to make it bigger and better I started planning sooner rather than later. Last year was a great learning experience and the changes I aim to make this year will only benefit all those involved , especially our designated Charity and the constants.

We have had amazing feedback thus far in regards to how well organised it was, how approachable everyone was and how amazing the prizes were along with the initiative of having the children’s packs to keep the kids occupied as prize giving got on.

An article was also printed in New Zealand Fishing News Magazine as we write for them on a regular basis.

We had Bill Hohepa host our prize giving and over 75 sponsors involved!
Id’e also like to point out that we do not profit from this competition, any entry proceeds left after 25% donation and costs etc, simply goes toward the following years prizes.

Personalized jewelry by Belle Fever would mean combining the links Belle Fever and The Strictly Land-based event both aim to achieve with families. A special even that aims to bring families together is then celebrated by locking that moment in time with a beautiful piece of your jewelry.
